Moved to McArthur

We are now  in McArthur in Vinton County Ohio. The move was CRAZY!  On Thursday last week we had just barely put the last of all the camera equipment and everything from the Marietta courthouse into the truck when we got a call from our supervisor telling us that he had just gotten word that one book we had done the week before had come back with blurring and had to be re-done.  there was no choice but to bring the equipment back in from the truck and back up to the FOURTH floor of the courthouse and set it all back up.  We had to wait until Friday morning for the rework to be installed on the computer for us to even be able to re-do it then on Friday morning we did the rework.  Then we took everything back down again and packed it all back up. Only on Friday the Elders had a Zone Meeting and couldn't help us so David and I were on our on this time getting it all into the truck. We had it all done and were on the road by about 2:00.  We got to the courthouse in McArthur by 3:30 to get most of it into the courthouse in time before they closed at 4:00 so that we could return the truck on Saturday.  Then we found our house which was a different house than what we had found by the address on the internet Map site. but a lot better!
Everyone here in McArthur has been super nice! Our Landlady and her two daughters have been really great and are even sharing their internet wifi with us. We are really glad the house is all on one level.  It is recently remodeled and is very clean and nice,

On Saturday after returning the truck we went to a natural  spring at a beautiful place a few miles from here and filled some jugs with some of the purest spring water there is anywhere.  Carolyn Grammer, in Marietta taught me to make both milk and water Kefir and I need spring water to make the water Kefir.  We were so happy to find a natural spring so close by. I've been making the Kefir since just after Thanksgiving and it has been such a great help to my digestive system that I can now eat rice without any problems.

This is our new little Branch in Jackson, about 20 miles south of McArthur.  It's a lovely building and the Saints there are great of course.  They have about double the attendance of the Spencer Branch, but that's still not much. We met the Sister missionaries but the other couple wasn't there because they were sick last week so we hope we will meet them next week.  The Branch president also wan't there, we didn't hear why but we hope to meet him also next week.

Sunday afternoon we went for a drive and saw Lake Hope.  The leaves aren't out on the trees yet so it isn't as pretty as it will be later.  We also didn't see any sign of the lily pads that are supposed to cover the lake in the spring.  We will watch for that and send a picture when that happens.
We are hard at work here hoping we can finish the work by November.  When the Common Pleas Judge saw what we were doing here with the Probate books, though he decided he wanted to get on the band wagon and is trying to get his books done too!  The Judge we are working with said we would be here two more years! Ha!  We love and miss everyone too much for that!  We hope you are all well and doing good!  Remember to do indexing!  We know the Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are real and help us daily!  We know they are answering our prayers, especially in caring for you in our absence.  We pray for you daily.  We know your prayers for us help us and we sure do thank you for them!

Conference in Charleston and Finishing Up in Marietta

On the 21st and 22nd of March we had a special conference in Charleston with D. Todd Christofferson and two of the Seventies.  On Saturday morning they met with just the missionaries.  At the beginning of the meeting Elder Christofferson had every single missionary come up and shake hands with him. We weren't expecting that!  It was pretty special! He did the same thing on Sunday only with the children and youth.  Saturday he did a question/answer session with the missionaries.  The missionaries asked really good good questions like how to keep the Spirit in sometimes trying companionships and how to get the most out of scripture study time.
On Sunday he told a funny story about when his kids were small and they knelt for family prayer and just as they were about to say the prayer someone pulled the string on the back of Darth Vader and a voice was heard saying, " Your lack of faith disturbs me."  He said the family lost it so bad that there was no bringing them back and they had to send the kids to bed without prayer that night.  Elder Christofferson left us with an amazing apostolic blessing and told us we could start the millennium now!
During our short visit to Charleston we visited the Capitol building and museum.  The Capitol building is magnificent and Capitol square is huge. There must be a dozen buildings comprising Capitol square.  Of course the history of the area out here is so comprehensive covering wars, Indians, industry, women's suffrage, bootlegging, transportation, etc.

We have moved back to the courthouse now and hope to finish up by next Wednesday with the Poll Books.  They have been some of the most difficult records we have done so far.   These picture are of ones that are in very good shape but they show the kinds of records they are.  Only men could vote during these times so only men's names are on these records.  The paper they are on are so brittle that they crumble just by our unfolding them.  They stared in 1816 and go to 1863.  There are a lot of stains in the papers and a lot of fading of the inks.  There must have been quite a variety of inks they used because some faded and some stayed bright.  Most of the tally sheets are done with the four vertical lines and the fifth diagonal line but  I've seen a couple of tally sheets with dots.
It makes you appreciate how far we've come with technology and the way voting is done today.  We watch on TV and know everything across the country as it happens.
On Thursday we hope to pack everything up and Friday morning we leave for McArthur.  Our new address will be 104 N Pearl St. McArthur, OH 45651.  We will miss the wonderful people we have made friends with here but we know we will make new wonderful friends in McArthur.  We will drive about 25 miles to church in Jackson where we understand there are Sister missionaries assigned and another missionary couple.  It is a Branch so we expect it will be small.  McArthur and Vinton County are so small that there isn't even a grocery store.  Athens is about 25 miles east, though and will have everything we could want.
I finally got a picture of one of the squirrels here.  They are everywhere!  We will take pictures when we get to McArthur.  We can't wait to tell you about Lake Hope!  We love you and miss you!
